Memories & Experiences

An ETHOS experience is more than just stunning landscapes – it’s a deeply personal, culturally immersive experience rooted in human connection.  Unlike standard, mass-tourism tours, ETHOS journeys are small-scale, locally-led, and purpose-driven. travellers are guided by ethnic minority guides, who share the trails, their stories and customs. Whether trekking through bamboo forests, bathing in herbal waters, joining a family for a home-cooked meal, or learning traditional crafts, every moment is designed to be authentic and respectful.

Create your experience
ETHOS began as an INGO, providing vocational training for ethnic minority children in Sapa District at the turn of the century. Driven by compassion, we morphed and grew into a socially responsible company. We now provide experiential tours for conscientious travellers seeking authentic cultural exchanges. Our experiences begin with an engaging cultural briefing at the ETHOS Community Centre, offering valuable context and insight into the lives of the communities guests will meet. Treks, motorbike adventures and textile workshops are carefully tailored to individual ability, with experiences that veer away from crowded localities in favour of quieter, more intimate settings. But what truly sets ETHOS apart is the social enterprise behind it. Every trek directly funds long-term community development:
    •    Education programmes for local youth
    •    Empowerment of women through training and employment
    •    Action against human trafficking through prevention and support initiatives

ETHOS treks offer travellers the rare chance to explore Vietnam’s northern highlands in a way that is ethical, educational, and unforgettable – leaving not just footprints, but lasting, positive change.

ETHOS are one of the most dynamic adventure and travel co-operations in North Vietnam. Our management team are made up of Hmong, Red Dao, Vietnamese and British advisers and we strive to encompass a real spirit of community through our work. Tourism can be a real help to local communities, providing income, positive cultural exchanges and a financial incentive to protect their natural environment. Ours is a 'total approach' to responsible tourism, covering everything from the way we plan and operate our trips to the practices of ETHOS as a company.
