ETHOS Living - Rice Farm Experience

Experience code: Ethosrice

Duration: 1 day (two day option also available)
Departure time: 8.30am (or a suitable time of your choosing)
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult

Background
When was the last time you did something for the first time? ETHOS believe that travelling is learning. What better way to learn about a culture than to be part of it.

What to expect:
By taking a hands on experience with us, you can learn about Black Hmong traditions and the processes involved in rice farming. In a small group you’ll get to grips with the day to day processes of the farm, particularly those on the paddy fields. Depending on the season, you will have the opportunity to plough the fields, plant the seeds and cut and collect the rice, while being introduced to the farm’s buffaloes and other domestic animals. Visitors can be as hands on as they wish; we recommend wading through the mud to plant the seeds.

The tour ends with an opportunity to sit down and try a variety of rice based snacks, including some rice whiskey. It can be extended to include a local dinner on the wooden veranda overlooking the farm. The farm is not far from the Muong Hoa River, so you made want to end your day with a swim.

The tour is open to families with children over 6 and we think it is a great way to experience the traditional rural way of life, meet local people and have a very enjoyable time in the process. Highly recommended.
