Hidden Fish Farm

Experience code: EthosFish

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.

Duration: 1 day
Departure time: 8.30am
Transport: Combination of trekking and private car

Background
In 2005, after one year of research and breeding trials, the Cold Water Research Centre in Sapa first devised a project plan for the reproduction and development of Rainbow Trout in the area. The cool climate and pure mountain streams were seen as ideal qualities for fish farming.  Aquaculture makes a significant and direct impact on poverty reduction and hunger eradication in Vietnam, by enhancing the capacity of poor people in rural areas to improve their own livelihoods.  Fish farms have now begun to open throughout Sapa District, each promoting human development and enhancing social well-being.

What to expect:
This unique culinary experience takes place in a hidden forest and involves foraging for ingredients and preparing farmed rainbow trout for a woodland feast.  There is also the option of including a steep trek through the cardomom forest to a beautiful waterfall.
ETHOS always use local guides with a great deal of experience. Information about local homes, handicrafts, food and customs will all form part of your experience.
