Forage, Camp and Connect with Nature
Venture beyond the usual paths on this intimate two-day experience, guided entirely by members of the Hmong community. Set in the remote forested valleys and foothills outside Sapa, this journey invites a quieter kind of adventure; one rooted in tradition, knowledge, and deep connection with the natural world.
What to Expect:
The expedition begins with a gentle walk through mountain trails and along quiet streams. The air is cool beneath the trees, and the sound of water and birdsong replaces the noise of the town. After a few hours, you will help establish a base camp in a sheltered spot surrounded by woodland. Tents are carried and set up together, and with the essentials in place, the real learning begins.
Over the course of the afternoon and the following morning, you will forage alongside your guides. They will share how to identify seasonal plants and wild foods such as edible herbs, forest mushrooms, bitter roots, greens, fruits, berries, and even grasshoppers or frogs. This is not a classroom, it is a series of conversations, shared at a natural pace, while walking the land and noticing what grows beneath your feet.
Meals are prepared from what is gathered, cooked simply over an open fire. The flavours are earthy and rich, deeply tied to the landscape around you. Dinner is shared slowly, with time to listen to the stories of the forest and the experiences of your hosts. As dusk settles, the forest darkens and the firelight becomes the centre of the camp.
In the morning, you will rise with the light and prepare a shared breakfast, again made from what the forest has offered. After breaking camp, the walk continues, with time to gather any final ingredients or observations before returning to Sapa.
This experience is about much more than food; it is about listening, noticing, and allowing the land to reveal its quieter wonders.
