Four Qualifications at the End of the Programme

Four Outcomes. One Integrated Learning Journey.

The apprenticeship is designed to prepare each apprentice to work towards four substantial educational and professional outcomes.

Awarding each qualification will depend upon successful attendance, coursework, examinations, practical assessment and completion of any legal or institutional requirements that apply.

1. Tourism Degree - Hanoi College of Industry and Trade

The apprentices will complete a formal tourism programme through Hanoi College of Industry and Trade.

Their college studies will provide an academic foundation in areas such as tourism operations, hospitality, customer service, destination knowledge, communication and professional practice.

The formal qualification will demonstrate that each apprentice has successfully completed recognised higher education in tourism.

What it represents:

• formal academic study

• assessed coursework and examinations

• recognised tourism knowledge

• preparation for professional employment

• progression beyond secondary education

Before publication, use the exact English title of the qualification as it will appear on the final certificate. It may be more precise to describe it as a degree, diploma or college qualification depending on the official award.

2. B2 English Certificate

English will be taught throughout the apprenticeship rather than treated as a single short course.

The apprentices will develop the ability to communicate with international visitors, understand professional instructions, write messages and reports, explain local culture and manage common tourism situations in English.

The B2 examination will provide independent evidence that an apprentice has reached an upper-intermediate level of English.

At B2 level, a learner should be increasingly able to:

• understand the main ideas of more complex communication

• hold conversations with international visitors

• explain experiences and viewpoints

• write clear messages and professional correspondence

• understand tourism and workplace vocabulary

• communicate with greater confidence and independence

English development will be integrated into guiding practice, presentations, digital work, visitor communication and everyday ETHOS operations.

3. International Tourism Licence

The programme will prepare the apprentices to meet the professional and legal requirements associated with guiding international visitors.

Preparation will include tourism knowledge, English communication, guest care, safety, cultural interpretation, route planning and responsible professional conduct.

The licence will demonstrate that an apprentice has progressed beyond informal tourism work and has met the applicable requirements for professional international guiding.

Preparation will include:

• tourism and destination knowledge

• communication with international visitors

• professional guiding practice

• legal and ethical responsibilities

• cultural interpretation

• safety and risk awareness

• visitor care and problem-solving

The final title and eligibility requirements should be checked against the regulations in force when each apprentice applies.

4. ETHOS Tourism Management Certificate

A competency-based professional award designed against international standards

The ETHOS Tourism Management Certificate will assess the apprentice’s ability to apply knowledge in real working situations.

It will not be awarded simply for attending lessons. Each apprentice will need to demonstrate competence through practical tasks, workplace evidence, supervised field performance, written work, presentations and a final integrated project.

The certificate will cover:

• responsible tourism operations

• professional communication

• guest care and visitor psychology

• digital systems and administration

• cultural heritage and responsible interpretation

• sustainability and environmental practice

• first aid, safety and risk management

• guiding and field leadership

• tourism enterprise and financial awareness

• project planning and team leadership

• professional ethics and safeguarding

• evidence-based reflection and continuous improvement

The ETHOS certificate should be described publicly as an internal professional certificate designed and assessed against international tourism and workplace standards, unless it later receives formal external accreditation.
