Meet the Apprentices
Pang, Ta May and Sinh are three young Hmong and Red Dao women preparing to begin a 30-month programme of education, practical training and professional development with ETHOS.
Each arrives with her own history, abilities and ambitions. They bring knowledge shaped by family, culture, community and daily life. Through the apprenticeship, they will develop English, tourism, digital, creative, leadership and workplace skills while preparing to build independent futures.
Three young women. Three individual journeys. One shared opportunity to learn and grow.
Black Hmong - Sử Pán, Sa Pa
“My dream is not to leave the mountains behind.”
17 years old • Aspiring community guide
Red Dao - Tả Phìn, Sa Pa
“I am learning to find my own way.”
18 years old • Future tourism professional
Black Hmong - Pa Cheo, Bát Xát
“I am trying to build a future.”
17 years old • Ambitious community role model.
When a young woman gains knowledge, confidence and opportunity, the benefits reach far beyond one individual. Families grow stronger, communities become more resilient, and future generations inherit new possibilities.
One shared programme
30 months
480 hours of ETHOS education
4 professional qualifications
3 future community leaders
Defined By More Than Adversity
Financial limitations, distance and restricted access to further education have shaped the choices available to Pang, Ta May and Sinh. These difficulties, however, do not define them.
Each apprentice brings knowledge, relationships, cultural identity and practical experience into the programme. Their stories include hardship, but they also include humour, family support, responsibility, curiosity, ambition and pride.
ETHOS will not ask the apprentices to perform an artificial version of their culture or repeatedly disclose personal hardship to justify their place in the programme. They will decide what they wish to share, what requires permission and what should remain private because their future should never be defined only by the obstacles behind them.
Learning Together, Growing Differently
The apprentices will live, study and work together, but they will not be expected to become identical.
Each will develop her own strengths, interests and professional direction. One may become particularly interested in guiding, while another may be drawn towards cultural interpretation, media, hospitality, enterprise or community work.
The programme provides a shared foundation while allowing each apprentice to discover what she does well and what kind of future she wants to build.
Every apprentice follows the same educational framework while developing her own professional identity.
What The Apprentices Will Learn
Over thirty months the apprentices complete one of the most comprehensive practical tourism education programmes in northern Vietnam. Formal college study is combined with structured ETHOS training, workplace mentoring and extensive field experience. Pang, Ta May and Sinh will study and practise:
English and professional communication
tourism and responsible guest care
computers, digital files and responsible AI
photography, video and visual communication
cultural heritage and responsible interpretation
sustainability and environmental stewardship
first aid, safety and risk management
mapping, weather and route planning
guiding and field practice
enterprise, project planning and leadership
Follow Their Educational Journey
Throughout the apprenticeship, ETHOS will share approved updates showing what the apprentices are learning, producing and achieving. These updates will also discuss difficulties honestly, without turning every challenge into a fundraising message.
Supporting an apprentice means far more than paying tuition. It means providing the stable foundation that allows learning to continue every day for thirty months.
Help Make Their Full Journey Possible
The ETHOS Apprenticeship is a 30-month commitment. It provides far more than formal tuition. Pang, Ta May and Sinh will receive a safe place to live, daily food and personal support, college education, English training, professional qualifications, workplace experience, field learning and long-term mentoring.
$420
Helps fund one apprentice for one month
$5,040
Helps fund one apprentice for one year
These figures show the average cost of supporting one apprentice through the programme. All donations enter one shared education fund and are used to support Pang, Ta May and Sinh fairly throughout their apprenticeship.
Funding contributes towards:
accommodation and household costs
food and personal bursaries
college fees and English study
professional examinations and qualifications
transport, village visits and field training
educational materials and internal ETHOS training
safeguarding, supervision and professional mentoring
The stories are personal. The funding is shared.
Every apprentice has her own journey, but this programme succeeds only when all three succeed together. Donations are never allocated according to whose story receives the most attention. Instead, every contribution enters one shared education fund that supports Pang, Ta May and Sinh equally throughout their apprenticeship.
What Success Looks Like
When Pang, Ta May and Sinh graduate they won't simply have completed a course. They will leave with recognised qualifications, professional experience, fluent workplace English, practical leadership skills and the confidence to mentor others. Our hope is that they become guides, educators, managers and community leaders who help shape a stronger future for northern Vietnam.
We are not simply supporting three apprentices. Together, we are investing in knowledge, confidence and community leadership that will continue long after this first apprenticeship has ended.
